Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric illnesses affecting teens and adults. According to the ADAA, an estimated 40 million American adults suffer from anxiety disorders. Only about one-third of those suffering from an anxiety disorder receive treatment, even though the disorders are highly treatable. Tommy Flick has extensive experience working with and treating most anxiety-related disorders.
Addictions in youth are inherently tied to one’s difficulty to self-regulate. Clients struggling with substance or screen addictions are often at a loss for healthy alternatives to help modulate stress and anxiety. They feel overwhelmed by life’s stressors and in turn become dependent on their addictive activities. The behaviors people originally use as escape become the same behaviors from which they can’t escape. These behaviors are repairable and can be drastically reduced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and bilateral stimulation of the brain, using EMDR.
Tommy uses cutting edge, empirically supported treatments to help foster improvement while increasing client comfort. CBT for anxiety related issues is present time focused and relies on skill-building interventions. EMDR may also be implemented in drastically reducing symptoms of anxiety. Tommy helps clients discover new ways to interpret stimulus, while using skills learned in therapy to better manage symptoms when they occur.
