Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

IPT focuses on how mood is affected by relationships.  It’s a brief treatment, using 12 structured weeks that focus on discovering the client’s presenting problem and seeing how that problem relates to interpersonal relationships. IPT is present time focused, looking at which individuals and/or groups, and what circumstances are negatively affecting the client’s mood and outlook in real time.  Our work in IPT considers past circumstances and relationships, but focuses on one’s current life- in what and with whom the client is currently involved. IPT is very helpful with resolving current interpersonal conflict, and helping clients recover from social isolation and negatively-focused peer groups.  Clients become aware that their social interactions affect their perceptions of their own lives.

What Kind of Problems Does IPT Treat?
